Tip 9 – Meta TagsMeta tags, along with the title tag, are found in the head section of your HTML code. We need only concern ourselves with the “keywords” and “description” tags. The former is pretty much redundant in this day and age as the search engines soon got wise to the SEO tactic of stuffing this tag with as many high value keywords (relevant or otherwise) as possible. Nevertheless, there are some smaller search engines that may or may not still use the tag as part of their algorithm and it doesn't hurt to take a minute just to include it. Choose no more than ten keywords relevant to your site and rearrange the order for each page you want indexing. You might even include common misspellings. Remember, don't overfill and don't repeat the same word over and over. This may still incur a penalty. The “description” tag should be a brief, well written summary of the content of that page. Include the keyword phrase you've targeted somewhere near the start and write a different, relevant description for all the pages you wish to be indexed. |
Tip 10 – SubmissionsDon't waste your time submitting to the search engines, despite what other SEO companies might promise in their spiel (“We will submit to X amount of search engines”). All you need is a link from an already indexed page and you'll be found. Hopefully our Top Ten SEO Tips will have cleared up a few basic issues and put you in a firm stead for your rise to internet supremacy. |
