Tip 1 – Content
Make your web pages interesting! Above all else, ensure that you build informative and unique content that will engage the user – the more of it you have, the better. SEO copywriting is an art. Learn the fundamentals, write articles, start a blog... But don't fill for the sake of filling. Ensure your content is relevant, well written and useful.
Tip 2 – Keyword research
Research your market to ensure the keywords you choose to target are both relevant and frequently searched for. Don't try to optimise for more than one keyword phrase per page. If you are targeting a number of keyword phrases , then spread them across the website, one per page. Ensure they relate to the topic found on that page!
Tip 3 – Inbound Links
Inbound links are good! That can't be emphasised enough. The more, the merrier. They add authority to your website and play a big part in firing it up through the search engine results pages. Ensure you have something worth linking to. Submit to relevant directories. Don't link back to anything that can be deemed as unsavoury, such as pharmaceutical, casino, and 'p0rn' websites – unless, of course, you run one of these sites yourself.
Tip 4 – Title tags
The title tag, which can be found in the head section of your HTML code, renders the text that appears in the uppermost left hand corner of your screen whenever you are browsing the internet. It is amazing how readily this particular tag is ignored, particularly considering its on-page importance. The search engines use what is written here as the gauge for what to expect on the rest of the page. Therefore it should contain the primary keyword phrase targeted on that particular page at the very start! Place the name of your website after this (if necessary), not before! Each page should have a unique title with the keyword phrase pertaining to the content thereon.
