SEO Copywriting - With the Word comes Power

Tuesday, 06 November 2007

Beneath the rule of men entirely great,
The pen is mightier than the sword.

- Edward Bulmer-Lytton, Richelieu

Words are powerful!

Wars are started with a badly chosen word or two. Adversely, wars can also be halted through words. Words can convince us of one argument's merit against another's. Words can spark revolution and dramatic social change. Thankfully words are also their to entertain us. They can bring laughter or tears. Exhilarate and enthral.

But ultimately words sell.

They sell us an idea, a notion, a lie, a way of life... The list goes on.

An important aspect of SEO is the whole process of writing good copy that is optimised to include the chosen keywords in a natural and non-intrusive manner so as they flow within the text.

Words mould and gel to form sentences. They fit together in different ways. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. That is why SEO copywriting is an acquired skill that be endeavoured unless you are confident with what you are doing. Firstly, can you write? If the answer is no then perhaps consider using somebody that can. Secondly, do you possess any SEO knowledge? Again, if  the answer is no then you should contact somebody that does. But if you are versed in both disciplines then combine these skills and let rip.

Remember that maxim 'Content is King'? Well this is where you put it into practice. Write like crazy, the more good content you have, the more popular you will become. Ensure you remain on-topic and relevant to both your site and your prospective audience. When you use your targeted keyword phrases ensure that they fit seamlessly in with the momentum of your text. It is all too tempting to compromise the integrity of your prose and unnecessarily repeat your keywords over and over again. Don't! Keep the tempo, skipping beats will discourage the reader from venturing further.

A Lack of good content could well play a major part in your website's failure. However, if it contains well written copy that engages the reader and sends them away enlightened and informed then the road to success will be just that little less bumpy.

The pen is – and always will be – mightier than the sword. Don't dismiss this when creating your website. Ensure your words speak volumes by writing copy that is as strong as it is proud.
